Welcome to the first semi-regular recurring series of the Yankees Files - The Hot Corner with Alex Rodriguez! This deep dive into the life of our friend Al will run on a monthly basis and examine the life and times of the man, the myth, the legend - A-Rod. In the April edition of The Hot Corner, we learn what’s got A-Rod down in the dumps and looking for love in all the wrong places (ie, Minnesota). Put on your number #13 jerseys - it’s time for The Hot Corner!

“Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announce breakup in TODAY exclusive”

Our sad story starts with the breakup of an all time duo. Like the end of the Beatles in the 1960s, the dissolution of “J-Rod” has sent shockwaves through the entertainment world, and brought this author to near tears. The power couple stole the show at the Super Bowl, the Oscars, and the presidential inauguration. For a once embattled, sometimes humbled third baseman of the Yankees of New York, this was not just a second act to a Hall of Fame career. This was a complete rebirth, a phoenix rising from the ashes of burning maple wood and Biogenesis steroids. A-Rod never had it as good as when riding the coattails of his former beau Jenny From The Block.

We’ve all been at the end of a relationship. There are two distinct paths that one can follow at this time. If you are the one being dumped , it’s a time of complete vulnerability and sadness, when you reevaluate yourself in the light of the time spent with someone close to you. “Was it me?” you ask. “Where did I go wrong and did it have to be like this?” Conversely, if you are the one who ends the relationship, the situation is entirely different. You feel powerful, sad but ultimately free. It’s a new dawn and the possibilities are endless. In the saga of Al and Jen, which side did #13 end up on? Well…..

As I said, we’ve all been there.

Fear not, for Alex Rodriguez’s Coldplay-induced heartbreak has a bright side. For just as we’ve all been at the end of a relationship, we’ve all spent time post-breakup practicing self care. Some of us go out and try to meet new people. Some of us purchase multiple pints of ice cream and spend the night by the television watching our favorite comfort Netflix show. And some of us….well, some of us go out and buy a professional basketball team.

Reports: Alex Rodriguez and businessman Marc Lore finalizing $1.5 billion deal to buy Timberwolves, Lynx

Yes friends, we’ve lost Alex Rodriguez the supportive and awkward boyfriend, but in return we’ve opened the next chapter of our collective relationship with Alex Rodriguez, professional sports owner. That, I think, brings forth a host of possibilities that make A-Rod’s dalliances with J-Lo seem elementary by comparison.

That will do it for this month’s edition of The Hot Corner with Alex Rodriguez. Join us again next month to see just what this public icon has in store for the Twin Cities!
